David was Chief Executive of STEP from 1999-2016. Previously he founded and led the global small business programme in public policy at ACCA. He is a former President of the Institute of Small Business and Entrepreneurship, and was an Industrial fellow at Kingston Business School. He is a Board member of the global Family Firms Institute and has sat on and chaired a range of government and think tank working parties, as well as being an aide to a number of UK government ministers.
